Finally, an update

Hello, all. Hope you're all well and happy and thank you for the birthday wishes, everyone. Sorry for not being responsive for the last, OMG, year or so. It's been a very stressful time and my instinct is to retreat, bury into the sand. A rubbish excuse but the only one I have.

RIP, Michael Clarke Duncan. Gone too soon at the early age of 54.

Ramblings: I loved the Olympics and now the Paralympics. London has done a spectacular job of staging the 2012 events. I freely admit to being an Olymposceptic but everything has been first class.

Did anyone else see Seth MacFarlane at the Proms? I knew he could sing because, duh, I watch Family Guy but not that he could sing so well. And that he'd done the Proms in 2009 and a small tour of the UK with the John Wilson Orchestra. He appeared here on a very small Sunday morning talk show where he was taken to task for swearing. Lol! Family Guy is on BBC3 here, at a ridiculous hour of the night. Perhaps Seth likes the comparative anonymity that comes with visiting the UK. I saw him host the Charlie Sheen Roast and taking the jibes about his sexuality very gracefully. Is he gay? Don't care. He's a genius on the lines of Joss.

It's been a tricky year. Father-in-law died last November, Paul has had severe mobility problems which have become milder with time, and I've been diagnosed with asthma. Huh. I don't believe it. My problem is that I need to lose weight. I keep the inhaler close but only need it a couple of times a week, which can be explained by carrying around my chubbo bod. Oh, and I had a wart on my nose. That was attractive.

Dad dying was pretty bad. We're still trying to get on without him. My heart goes out to all of you dealing with potential, imminent, or recent bereavement. *hugs*

*hugs* Hi, babe! For some reason, my YIM keeps going down. I've seen you log on and tried to respond but it was down again.

*hugs* I've missed you! I'm so sorry to hear about your Father-in-law. I hope Paul's mobility issues continue to get better.

Missed you too! I'll try to be more regular, both in posting and commenting. It's been a strange and not pleasant year but these things happen. Dad was 87 so not a huge surprise, just upsetting. We sort of hoped he'd get to 90.

I'm sorry for your loss. And I have missed you, definitely.

I've gone through some upheavals myself, though thankfully they've been mostly positive, apart from a brief period of unemployment early this year. I just moved to a new place this weekend, so I'm still unpacking boxes and generally living in chaos. ;-)
Sep. 4th, 2012 08:48 pm (UTC)
So glad you found another job! :)

Oh wow, moving is really a pain, though exciting too. Don't worry too much about the temporary chaos, it'll all sort itself out. As long as you have a kettle and a microwave, you can get by. ;)

Hi Kitty

Nice to see you. I'm very sorry about your father in law. I know how devastated I'd feel if I lost mine.
Sep. 4th, 2012 08:44 pm (UTC)
Hi Deb.

I'm still trying to get over losing Dad. He was a rock, always there for us, always kind and funny. He was a truly good man. I hope your father in law is there for a very long time. :)

Thanks, Kerry! I'll always remember the Hub and our little corner in the Park Inn. I've rarely had such an immediate connection with anyone, strange as we have such different backgrounds. :)

I love you, Kitty. *cuddles you*

Love you too, my dear, and thank you so much for the gorgeous card. The birthday was my 60th and I went into hibernation after sorting out my pensions. I'm a pensioner! 0:0
I'm so sorry for being absent.

Did anyone else see Seth Macfarlane at the Proms?

Yes, definitely! I was lucky enough to be there and it was an amazing experience.

Nice to see you here again but very sorry about your father-in-law.
Sep. 4th, 2012 10:11 pm (UTC)
I was hoping someone had seen him! He seems to be a very talented man of many facets and, from the broadcast, his singing voice, range and acting abilitly is to be admired. I'm so glad you had the chance to be there. :)

Thanks for the commiserations. It's helped to talk about it.

It's so good to hear from you, Kitty. I'm sorry y'all have been dealing with so many difficult issues in your lives.

Thank you, and I know many friends have been dealing with issues and it's selfish to dig down and retreat. I'm very fond of you, my dear, and hope your life is stormingy good. :D

It's just so nice to see you back here. I'm sorry you've had a rough year, and am glad that somehow you've found your way to posting again. I was off LJ for quite a while, too, for various reasons to do with RL, and I do think it helps to have somewhere else to go to just float in something friendly and fun and light for a while.
Sep. 5th, 2012 01:32 pm (UTC)
You really couldn't have expressed it better. Thank you. I hope your RL reasons have been sorted out.

Can't wait for our boys to come back. :D

Oh Kitty, I’m so sorry to hear about your father-in-law and that you’ve both not been well. All my very best thoughts that things continue to improve for you. *hugs*

I wonder if I can catch up with the Proms on iPlayer? Sounds like I missed something good.

Not much to catch up on with me, to be honest. For the past year I seem to (quite literally) be always either working or sleeping so there’s not much going on (apart from a very dedicated job search). I still have my very inexplicable crush on Benedict Cumberbatch and I’m falling back into fandom by way of Avengers. That’s about it.
Sep. 5th, 2012 01:53 pm (UTC)
Thank you so much, my dear. *hugs*

I'm sure you can catch it on iPlayer. Seth Macfarlane is a little retro, apparently doesn't like computers and loves the old singers like Crosby and Sinatra and the song writers of their time. I have no problem with that. *g*

Are you still with the NHS? The crush on Benedict isn't so inexplicable. He's unusual but highly attractive. I've seen Avengers but am totally absorbed by J2.

Thank you, love. These things happen as the years roll on. Dad was 87, I'm 60 and Paul is 57 so we must expect bereavement and health problems. At least we both live in countries where an illness won't bankrupt us.

Are you still writing and e-publishing? One of our best moments was when you sold your first e-book. :D

Vic! You know exactly what it's like, having departed LJ for a bit. As Corby said, nice to come home again to a non-judgemental community. :D

Thanks, hon! They will, for sure. Problems happen because life is a bugger that way. Lol!

Sep. 17th, 2012 03:31 pm (UTC)
I tend to go all hermit on the mountain myself when my stress gets too high, so I get it. Still, it's great to see a post from you, though I'm very sorry for your loss. I hope that things in the next year will be better for you and yours.
Sep. 18th, 2012 12:28 am (UTC)
I'm relieved you get it. It's not fair but we all have our ways of dealing and some of us retreat. I'm not sure it's entirely healthy as it's very hard to stick out our heads again. We might have been tortoises in a previous life... *g*

Thanks for the good wishes, my dear, and the same for you.
