Hello, everyone. I'm almost as surprised to see myself here as you are. Really.

I had a psychosis, yay! I can only say, if you're offered HRT, take it. I was manic for about eight years and then too embarrassed to get in touch with anyone I'd been vicious with until... now. Still ashamed, but life goes on and is too short to ruin with regret.

Anyway, my life is now brilliant. Lovely little bungalow in Clacton, enough money in the bank to pay the bills, a whole new view of life.

My doc told me I was at risk of T2 diabetes. I was 5'2", 17 stone, 190lb, 108kg, massive. I'm now 12 and a bit stone, 80 kg and acceptable. To me. Paul has also dropped several stone and is fighting fit. Whatever that means. I have a couple of stone to go.

As a result of the doc's warning, I checked out T2 diabetes. A diagnosis means you have high blood sugar which needs to be controlled. The go-to by most medicos is drugs, of course. Metformin is the first port of call but there are others and lack of control can lead to insulin.

Carbohydrates, ALL carbohydrates turn into sugar in the blood. Of course, that includes straight sugar and fructose in fruit plus underground veg like potatoes, sweet potatoes, as well as bread, rice, pasta, anything with grains. Including, sadly, porridge (oatmeal).
Don't be fooled into thinking that low GI is healthier. It's not, just takes longer to hit the bloodstream.

Makes sense that if you have a disease which entails too much sugar in the blood, keeping the sugar to a minimum would control that disease. It needn't be progressive. There's no cure but it can be reversed to the point that no meds are needed. Not in all cases, but worth trying a dietary resolution.

The big question is, why is the government advice in the US, UK, Australia, Canada, all the Western countries, to recommend carbs like bread, spuds and pasta to fill the plate. Protein and fats are far more satisfying. Atkins was right.

Ah, could it be that the body that advises the Government on dietary requirements is packed full of representatives of the Food and Pharmaceutical industries. I sound like a conspiracy theorist. *g*

By the way, the link between saturated fats and cardiovascular events is very weak, as is the link between satfats, cholesterol and CVE's. I shall continue eating plenty of satfats. *g*
